Google has released Gemini 3.8 Flash and Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber. The general model is positioned for long-running software engineering, multi-step analysis, and agentic workflows; the Cyber variant specializes in vulnerability discovery and automated remediation. Both share the same underlying intelligence but are tuned for different deployment settings.
The strategic shift is economic as much as technical. Google is bringing stronger coding and reasoning into its Flash price tier, while offering vetted defenders access to a specialized security model through the Fairwind Program. If production performance matches the launch results, companies can run capable agents more frequently without routing every task to a more expensive flagship model.
A lower-cost model that can handle long-running engineering and security work could materially reduce the operating cost of enterprise agents.
